A Study on the Application of Color Universal Design in Construction Sites to Prevention Safety Accidents for Elderly Workers

초록

This study analyzed the application of Color Universal Design at four construction sites managed by the Korea Rural Community Corporation to evaluate if all workers, including the elderly and those with color vision deficiency, can clearly perceive statutory safety colors. While environmental colors prioritize harmony, the findings confirm that safety colors demand stark contrast against dominant backgrounds to function effectively. Therefore, rather than uniformly enforcing statutory standards, sites must adapt safety colors flexibly. For example, architectural sites feature concrete-dominated grey environments, whereas civil engineering sites present soil-dominated brown environments. Addressing these physical characteristics is essential. As the domestic workforce transitions into hyper-generation society, implementing Color Universal Design serves as a core management strategy and practical framework for advancing construction safety.
