초록

Recently introduced color compomers for deciduous teeth may improve the cooperation of children in dental clinics. These products have several colors and glittering effect. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of coloring and glittering on light transmittance and microhardness of colored compomers. Two commercial products, Twinky Star and Glasiosite (Voco, Cuxhaven, Germany), were used for this study. The cured samples were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Several samples were prepared and measured using a Vickers hardness tester (FM-7, Future-Tec Inc., Tokyo, Japan). After that, three samples were randomly chosen for the light transmittance analysis using spectrophotometer (CARY 5G, Varian, Victoria, Australia) and the absorbance was measured. The fluoride content released from the sample was measured using an ion chromatograph (LC-10AVP Series, Shimadzu, Tokyo, Japan). It is concluded from the present study that the color of each compomer may affect the light transmittance, resulting in change of the microhardness value. The included glittering particles additionally decreased the microhardness of colored compomers. The accumulated fluoride concentrations for 14 days were far less than 0.2 ppm in all tested compomers, even though they were supposed to release fluoride. Key words: Color compomer, Light transmittance, Microhardness, Fluoride release
