Sharing Questions for a Big Picture of History

초록

In the field of Song-Liao-Jin-Yuan history in 2012~2013, research on history of nomadic peoples of the Northern areas and Mongol Empire in- creased, whereas that on Song history decreased to a great extent. Breaking away from sino-centered perspective, many researches took multi-centered perspective on inter-relationship among Song and other states and peoples. Researches on Mongol Empire was the most active field during the years. Es- pecially it is a very promising perspective that we deal with the Mongol Em- pire as a unit focusing on its “world-empireness.” Overcoming the limitation of classical Chinese materials which mostly reflect the sino-centered perspec- tive, sources written in other languages began to be intensively used and es- tablished views of the sinification of Yuan dynasty has been reexamined. To advance the field, I suggest that scholars should make efforts to develop and share the questions for creating a big picture of history in general instead of pigeonholing the research subject in a narrow specific field.
