한국 대학의 한국인 영어 교수자들에 영어강의 대한 유학생들의 인식

초록

Korea has begun to welcome a variety of international students into its university communities. This paper presents international students’ perceptions of learning from Korean instructors who are non-native English speakers by comparing findings from questionnaire data on their perceptions (n=37) to Korean students. Results showed that largely international students did not claim to have any problems learning from Korean English-speaking instructors and those who enrolled in classes taught by Korean English-speaking instructors said they enjoyed learning from them. However, compared to Korean students, international students were found to prefer non-Korean English instructors, felt a stronger closeness to them, and thought Korean English-speaking instructors had difficulty understanding and answering their questions. For non-English speaking nations’ higher education to flourish and continue to attract international exchange students, especially more full-time students, recommendations are made to improve international student satisfaction with and entice them to enrol in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) classes taught by non-native English speaker instructors.
