Lossless LUT Compressions for Image Enhancement

Methodologies are proposed to reduce lookup table count losslessly by using an appropriate straight line as a reference. In addition, the straight line implementation is discussed, using a shifter and lookup table. The mirroring, shifting, and folding are presented for the tone curve that cannot be easily implemented using the straight line. A lookup table read-only memory architecture suitable for implementing a system on display panel and the verification using actual images is discussed through field programmable gate array and MATLAB simulations, respectively. The evaluations and comparisons of the performances of the proposed lookup table compression system are described.
