2차원 패턴을 3차원 모듈로 전환한 가구 디자인 연구 -잉카 전통 토카푸 문양을 중심으로-

초록

This study proposed a methodology that goes beyond simply replicating Inca traditional patterns and colors and develops them into a modern furniture design by integrating geometric patterns and Tocapu motifs. In previous studies, Inca patterns were mainly used as fabric design or decorative elements, but this study attempted to combine traditional symbolism and modern design by modularizing Inca Tocapu patterns and introducing an iterative and harmonious curved structure. The main characteristics that emerged during the design development process are as follows. Integration of Geometric Patterns and Tocapu Motifs: By interpreting the Tocapu, a representative geometric symbol system of Inca culture, the patterns were constructed into iterative, lattice-like structures. These were developed into layered, orthogonal compositions —stacked and incrementally rotated—to emphasize integration and structural clarity. Symbolic Use of Color: Colors commonly used in traditional Inca textiles were extracted and analyzed, and their cultural meanings were reflected in the color scheme of the design. Each color was applied with intention, both as a visual element and as a medium to convey traditional values. Modular Pattern Design: The Tocapu motifs were redesigned into single modular units that could be structurally and aesthetically applied throughout the furniture, securing scalability and systematic cohesion. Moral Harmony and Functional Design: The repetitive modules were applied in ways that simultaneously serve structural roles and aesthetic functions, aiming to provide not only a decorative form but also a design that integrates tradition with practical usability.
