김말봉의《密林》과《찔레꽃》의 독자수용과정에 대한 인지심리학적 고찰

초록

The purpose of this paper is to reveal how to absorb popular fictions published 1930’s in Korean peninsula to mass. Schank, one of famous Psychologist of Human Recognition, said there are two steps when readers are working in their brain in order to understanding a new script. The first step is called ‘immersion’, second step is called ‘engagement’. When the Readers stay in immersion step, they feel more comfortable, happy and fun as like as they are immersed in bath tub filled with warm water. In that time their schema ie reconciled with scripts of text. But when their schema ie not fitted with scripts of text, they have to reassign or distort their established schema. That step is called ‘engagement’. In engagement step in processing of psychological recognition, the subject has to act spontaneously. Kim Mal Bong’s novels are very popular in 1930’s in Korean peninsula. Her long stories are published as newspaper serials. She had thought novel is a kind of media to communicate writer with mass. Her early representative works are《Milleem》and《Jillegot》. When a person read those novels, they might experienced two steps, immersion & engagement. The subject of whole story is “promotion of virtue: exhortation to righteousness”. It was familiar theme with mass schema in those days. So that mass could be in immersion step. They had felt comfortable and fun. But the ending part of stories are very different with mass schema’s expectations. The readers might be very confused. And in their mind, their own script conflict with novel’s script. In that step, reader’s perspective or recognitions would be more wider and deeper by reassigning or distorting their established schema. Psychologist of recognitions called that steps are engagement.
