Methane emission impact the environment in various ways and degrade the living conditions of citizens due to the odor. In order to prepare foundational information for response measures related to methane emissions, numerous studies are being conducted to understand the behavior of methane's velocity distribution. However, most of these studies are based on artificial bubbles formed through pressure, and research on velocity distribution itself is relatively scarce. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the velocity distribution of bubbles that naturally occur through BMP tests. For this purpose, samples used in BMP tests were prepared, and the moment bubbles were formed was captured and recorded. Subsequently, using an In-house Post Image Analysis Tool, image analysis was conducted and velocity data by height were extracted. Through nonlinear regression analysis and dimensional analysis, a simplified generalized formula was presented. This simplified model, utilizing only physical indicators, offers the advantage of easy use by general managers. If this research is extended to analyze bubble behavior under various environmental conditions and to include other types of greenhouse gases, it is expected to contribute to more precise environmental management and pollution prevention strategies. © 2024 Korea Water Resources Association.
