Glass-lined (GL) mixing vessels have been used in industry for many years, but there have been few cases in which the mixing performance of various GL impellers over a wide range of viscosities has been evaluated. In this paper, we evaluated the mixing performance of the Twoblend, Twinstir, Pfaudler, and the newly developed HS603G as GL impellers by using the decolorization method and found that the HS603G has superior power efficiency compared with ordinary mixing impellers. It can also suppress dead zones in the upper part of the mixing vessel and achieve uniform mixing at an early stage. The HS603G also exhibited high efficiency and good mixing performance in the optimum selection diagram defined by Zlokarnik with PD rho 2/mu 3 [-] and tm mu /D2 rho [-].
