In this study, the thermal performance of Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) equipped with a Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP) cooling plate under fast charging was quantitatively evaluated. A 1D model was developed using MATLAB & Simulink to simulate the maximum temperature and the temperature difference within the battery module during fast charging. The thermal behavior of the PHP module was compared with that of an Aluminum plate module. Furthermore, the influence of rule-based current control strategy, triggered by the maximum module temperature and the maximum temperature difference within the center cell, on both the thermal response and the charging time was also compared. The results confirm that under temperature-based current control conditions, the charging time of PHP equipped battery modules can be significantly reduced by optimizing the coolant temperature.
