This study is aimed at determining the implications for future mobility designs of the Korean auto-industry by studying the automobiles developed and sold in Korea in the 1980s through reverse-engineered vehicle images and data materials. Starting with the Cortina Mk V to the Y2 Sonata, the rebuilt package layouts of the body and interior images of instrument panel views of 14 vehicles were examined. These included body proportions with total lengths, widths, and heights of the cabin volumes. Some of the cars have broader body widths regardless of the segments of vehicles, based on the preferences of the Korean auto-market during the fast-growing economy era. Many Korean consumers bought cars classified as family sedans with wider bodies, and the demand extended to current Korean passenger cars with roominess-oriented designs.
