초록

This study analyzes color usage by emotion type and identifies color–emotion mapping patterns in romance fantasy webtoons. Three KakaoPage series were selected, and 90 cuts were sampled based on Ekman's six basic emotions. Three dominant background colors per cut were extracted using a standardized Munsell conversion protocol, yielding 270 color data points. Value functioned as the primary variable distinguishing positive from negative emotions: enjoyment recorded the highest mean value (M = 9.49), while negative emotions ranged from 4.00 to 5.31. Fear showed the lowest mean value and chroma (M = 4.00; M = 1.69), indicating the most suppressed color environment. Chroma was low across all emotions with C = 1 as the universal mode. Enjoyment was dominated by warm GY hues (97.8%), whereas the PB family appeared consistently across all negative emotions as a shared cool-color convention. Disgust was distinguished by the highest neutral hue ratio (26.7%), surprise by the highest cool-color ratio (64.4%), and anger by the exclusive appearance of the R family forming a warm–cool contrast structure. These findings suggest a systematic color–emotion convention within the romance fantasy genre and provide foundational data for future cross-genre and audience perception studies.
