한국의 컨버젼 건축에 관한 연구 1 - 서울시립미술관 서소문본관을 중심으로 -

초록

Preservation and restoration of buildings can be roughly categorized into two, renovation and conversion. Like many Asian countries that have developed rapidly since the modern era, many modern buildings have disappeared in because of economic or political judgments. However, in this two decades many changes have happened even in Korea, in many cases they have been converted into cultural space such as museum and exhibition space. This study is to track and to analyze one of the typical conversion architecture in Korea, Seoul Museum of Art, which has been converted from the old supreme court and opened in May 2002. Since around 2000, preservation and regeneration of buildings began to take place in Korea. Among them, the museum is a very important example in terms of its process of conversion, and of the conversion of public architecture with not just restoration but with large scale of expansion.
