A Study on the Current Status of Public Design Applications in Construction Worker Rest Facilities

초록

In the summer of 2025, this study investigated 33 small-scale construction sites in Gangwon State. Although not legally mandated, over 50% of these locations provided indoor rest facilities. Where indoor space was unavailable, outdoor alternatives like greenhouses or tents shielded workers from direct sunlight. While basic safety rules were managed effectively, systematic color utilization remained insufficient. To improve these environments, four public design strategies are proposed. First, before applying color to rest facilities, high-visibility colors should be given priority for hazardous protruding structures. Second, construction waste like discarded fall-prevention nets can be recycled into shade structures or hammocks. Third, temperature-sensitive construction site rest facilities signs should be introduced as visual triggers for essential breaks in extreme heat. Finally, we should consider integrating separate rest facilities into the temporary power grid of the main construction equipment.
