초록
This study explores the spatial configuration characteristics of artificial intelligence (AI)-based children’s museums andtheir implications for future educational environments. The diffusion of AI and digital technologies has accelerated a shift inchildren’s museums: from static, information-centered exhibitions to dynamic learning environments that emphasize immersion, interaction, and autonomy. This transition not only responds to long-standing critiques of functionalist museum spaces but alsopositions AI as a catalyst for rethinking exhibition design by integrating sensory, emotional, and educational dimensions. The study was conducted through a literature review and case analysis. As an analytical framework, Prakash Nair’s elevendesign principles for learning spaces were first adopted and then reorganized into three dimensions: physical space, sensoryexperience, and technical infrastructure. Within this framework, three representative cases—Goyang Children’s Museum, theNational Children’s Science Museum, and the Seoul Robot & AI Science Museum—were examined to assess how exhibitionexperiences and operational processes function as control elements across the three dimensions. The comparative analysis revealed differentiated emphases across cases. Goyang Children’s Museum highlighted autonomy andcirculation through age-specific galleries, ramps, and flexible exhibition rooms, though it exhibited limitations in sustainability andscalability. The National Children’s Science Museum emphasized emotional stability with balanced sensory stimuli and rest areas, however, its technical foundation remained basic, restricting the further expansion of AI-based exhibitions. The Seoul Robot &AI Science Museum demonstrated strength in immersion and technological responsiveness through advanced equipment, digitalinfrastructure, and open structures, but lacked sufficient restorative facilities. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that the capacities of AI for personalized learning, real-time responsiveness, and creativeproduction can be translated into the architectural design language of children’s museums. By framing these museums asprototypes for AI-based experiential learning, the proposed three-dimensional framework offers an analytical perspective forunderstanding the integration of technological innovation and human-centered values, and provides implications for the futuredesign and operation of AI-based children’s museum exhibition spaces.
