Dry-processed and porosity-enhanced freestanding graphite anodes for highly performing lithium-ion batteries

We present a novel approach to enhance the effective charge capacity and rate capability of Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) by introducing pores into freestanding natural graphite electrode to exclude inactive copper current collectors, through a dry processing technique. The porous architecture formed via naphthalene sublimation improves electrolyte impregnation, boosting rate capability. It outperforms conventional slurry-based and nonporous high-loading dry electrodes, making this porogen-assisted freestanding approach promising for nextgeneration LIBs.
