한국 자동차산업 초기 차량의 디자인 특징 고찰

초록

The purpose of this study is to derive insights from automobiles of the early Korean auto-industry era by observing reverse-engineered materials, including vehicle images and data, and to trace the origins of the current Korean automobile design characteristics. Eight vehicles developed in the 1960s, including the models Saenara, Corona, FIAT 124, Publica, Crown, Cortina, Ford 20M, and Shinjin-Jeep, were observed through their rebuilt package layouts and interior instrument panel images, with analysis focusing on body proportions such as hoods, cabins, and decks. Some of them were found to have hood proportions of 29 % regardless of body size, whereas the others featured shorter ones with less than 25 %, similar to the typical European compact designs prioritizing space, in contrast to American models known for longer hood types. It can be concluded that, following Toyota’s withdrawal in the early 1970s, typical European designs have predominated in Korea
