(Background and Purpose) In the contemporary urban landscape, corporate open spaces are significantly expanding beyond their traditional roles as simple venues for brand experience (BX) to function as vital public places that interact deeply with the urban context and foster diverse social relationships. However, as these specific spaces are primarily created based on the strategic intentions and capital of private corporations, it remains inherently difficult to fully explain their unique characteristics using traditional concepts of publicness or function-oriented spatial interpretations alone. Therefore, this study focuses on Victor Turner's sophisticated concept of‘Liminoid’to identify the specific mechanism by which users' voluntary participation and extraordinary experiences in corporate open spaces lead to socially shared place experiences. The ultimate goal of this research is to establish a rigorous theoretical framework for analyzing these phenomena and reveal the mechanism by which private domains expand into shared social environments. (Method) This study applies a comprehensive qualitative research methodology that combines extensive literature analysis and comparative case studies. First, through a detailed literature review, the core concept of Victor Turner's Liminoid and its spatial implications were examined to differentiate it from traditional liminality, thereby deriving four essential spatial indicators for analyzing corporate open spaces: Threshold, Transition, Ludic Quality, and Shared Experience (Communitas). Second, based on these derived indicators, case studies were conducted through in-depth field observations and literature surveys on five major domestic and international corporate open spaces: the Amorepacific Headquarters lobby, Musinsa Terrace Hongdae, LG U+ Daily Essential(Ilsang-biilsang), Ginza Sony Park and Yanmar Tokyo. (Results) The case analysis confirmed that Liminoid characteristics are manifested at vastly different levels depending on the specific spatial composition and operation methods of each site. While Ginza Sony Park demonstrated the strongest Liminoid characteristics through the radical minimization of physical boundaries and the active encouragement of non-purposeful use, Musinsa Terrace Hongdae, which is closely integrated with commercial content and consumer contexts, showed relatively weak Liminoid traits due to the restricted nature of its autonomous activities. Through this comprehensive analysis, the study successfully derived a process-oriented mechanism showing that Liminoid characteristics are manifested through a causal and stepwise structure: [Relaxation of Boundaries → Formation of Transitional Experience → Possibility of Autonomous Action → Formation of Shared Experience]. (Conclusions) The analytical framework established in this study empirically validates the processual mechanism of liminoid experiences, demonstrating the structural principles through which private domains expand into socially shared place experiences. The findings reveal that liminoid experiences within corporate open spaces are fundamentally determined by users' dwellability and behavioral autonomy rather than mere physical openness. Notably, when unpurposive behaviors are activated, a loose social solidarity (Communitas) naturally emerges among users. Consequently, future planning of corporate spaces must shift beyond visual openness toward a spatial structure that accommodates autonomous stays, thereby creating enduring value as sustainable experiential spaces within the urban fabric.
