The Influence of Self-expectations on AI Adoption Expectations and Anxiety* Seungyon Lee** Abstract: The primary objective of this research is to examine the impact of an individual's self-expectation on AI adoption expectations and anxiety. Based on six items (perceived likelihood of marriage, perceived fertility, academic goals, anticipated happiness in 20 years, desired retirement age, and desired lifespan), the values of each item measuring self-expectation were categorized into three levels: high, medium, and low. A total of 251 undergraduate students participated in the survey to investigate these relationships. The results reveal that individuals with high self-expectations are likely to have higher expectations for AI adoption. However, the relationship between self-expectation and AI adoption anxiety shows both positive and negative correlations. This suggests that self-expectation and AI adoption anxiety may have a U-shaped nonlinear relationship, implying that AI adoption expectations and anxiety may function independently. This research highlights that AI adoption will play a key role in developing tailored strategies and policy frameworks for technology implementation.
