매개 공간으로서의 지하광장 특성 분석 - 지하철과 상업 시설 사이의 지하광장을 중심으로 -

초록

Purpose: The underground square is an intermediate space as well as a buffer zone that connects two spaces of opposed characteristics. Compared to the important role it plays, the underground square is not the main interest of people, still unrecognized and not properly managed. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to establish the concept of underground square as an intermediate space and to analyze its characteristics. Method: By analyzing preceding researches, the characteristics of the underground plaza as an intermediate space were defined as continuity, bufferability, and accessibility. After that, analysis elements for each characteristic were derived, and an objective analysis was performed through a user satisfaction survey on the analysis elements of underground plazas connecting the subway and commercial facilities. Result: Continuity is the characteristic that connects spaces into a space. Horizontal element, as a sub-element, makes spaces recognized as one space through visual openness, otherwise vertical element connects two spaces which are physically separated. Bufferability is the characteristic which mitigates alienation between two spaces and induce transitions by utilizing their own characteristics. Resting element and behavioral support element provide users with space to stay and induce their actions, respectively. In the case of accessibility, it induces users’ access through the attractiveness of the place. Symbolic element increases accessibility through high-visible element. Recognition element creates green land and makes its users to recognize it as a resting space.
