Designing a Language Model-Based Authoring Tool Prototype for Interactive Storytelling

This paper proposes our initial authoring tool prototype using a language model to write interactive stories with narrative elements such as plot types and character arcs. The current prototype focuses on the overall design of the prototype and leaves detailed interactivity and multimedia features for further studies. The results of a simple evaluation using ChatGPT for the 72 generated stories show that the users’ input logline and the selection of the narrative elements can affect the output story quality, such as empathy, surprise, and immersion. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
